There’s a difference between clearing a drain and cleaning one. Punching a hole through a clog gets the water moving again for a few weeks. Cleaning the pipe wall to wall removes what caused the clog, and the drain stays open.
We do the second one. Every sewer call starts with a camera so we know what we’re dealing with, and you see the footage too.
Guessing at a sewer line is expensive. A camera inspection shows exactly what’s in the pipe and where: roots at a joint, a grease shelf, a belly holding water, a crack, or a section that has collapsed entirely. It also tells us how far down the line the problem sits, which determines whether the fix is a cleaning or a repair.

A snake cuts a path through a blockage. A hydro jet scours the inside of the pipe with high-pressure water until the wall is clean. For grease in a kitchen line, scale in old cast iron, or fine roots throughout a lateral, jetting is the only method that actually restores the full diameter of the pipe.
It’s also the right call when a line has clogged more than once. If you’re snaking the same drain every few months, you’re paying repeatedly to treat a symptom.
Not every job needs a jet. A single slow bathroom sink, a shower that backs up, a toilet that won’t clear: those are fixture line clogs, and a properly sized cable machine handles them quickly and cheaply. We bring both, and we use whichever one the job actually calls for.
When the camera shows a broken, offset or collapsed section, cleaning won’t fix it. Los Angeles County has a lot of original clay and cast-iron laterals, and after eighty years the joints separate and roots get in. We repair the failed section, and where the yard, driveway or mature landscaping makes digging a bad idea, we use trenchless methods that replace the pipe with minimal excavation.
For most Los Angeles County homes, every 18 to 24 months keeps a line ahead of trouble. Homes with mature trees over the lateral, or with original clay pipe, do better on a yearly schedule. A snake is a steel cable that bores through the blockage and gets water flowing. Hydro jetting uses high-pressure water to scour the full inside diameter of the pipe, removing grease, scale and root hair that a cable leaves behind. Snaking is faster and cheaper for a single fixture clog. Jetting is what solves a line that keeps clogging.
In most Los Angeles County cities, the property owner owns and maintains the lateral from the house to the connection at the city main, including the portion under the sidewalk and street. The city owns the main itself. We’ll tell you which side of that line your problem is on before you spend anything.
Yes, and in this county they routinely do. Roots find the small amount of vapor escaping at a clay pipe joint, grow toward it, then thicken inside the pipe and pry the joint apart. Hydro jetting removes them, but if the joint has already separated, the roots come back. That’s when a repair to the section is the cheaper long-term answer.
